Campaigning

CAMRA’s mission is to support and promote good pubs and real ale. This valuable work is undertaken locally by branches and individual members. These efforts are backed up by national CAMRA campaigns to secure backing for pubs and real ale from Government.

In the current Parliament over 270 MPs are publicly signed up and committed to supporting measures to assist pubs. The Prime Minister has also pledged a pub friendly Government. At the last Election over 670 candidates supported CAMRA’s Beer Drinkers and Pub Goers Charter. As CAMRA’s membership grows so does our campaigning effectiveness.

This section contains information on our key national campaigns. As well as campaigning for Government action CAMRA also campaigns to encourage Brewers and Pub Companies to act in the interests of consumers and not just shareholders. To this end CAMRA regularly liaises  with individual companies as well as industry bodies such as the Society of Independent Brewers and the British Beer and Pub Association.

As a designated consumer body under the Enterprise Act 2002 CAMRA has made two formal complaints to the Office of Fair Trading regarding anti-competitive behaviour.

CAMRA has an excellent reputation with national media meaning our views on key issues in the beer and pub sector are widely reported. In addition CAMRA publishes a monthly newspaper, quarterly magazine and local newsletters.

CAMRA’s Policy and Public Affairs Team are responsible for delivering our national campaigns and can be contacted for advice and support by emailing campaigns@camra.org.uk.
